Twenty years ago - 1992

The second annual Santa Claus call-in show ended its three-day run with 90 minutes of jam-packed telephone calls. A total of 149 phone calls were taken, with an estimated 200 children having talked to Santa. The show was a joint effort of the Dunkirk and Fredonia Cable Advisory Board and Fredonia State University College.

Thirty years ago - 1982

At the centennial year Christmas party for OBSERVER employees, Mrs. M. Louise Ratkoski, Living Pages Editor, was named "Outstanding Employee" by H. Kirk Williams, publisher. Mrs. Ratkoski joined the company as a receptionist/switchboard operator in 1965 and moved to the society desk three months later. Mr. Williams noted the award is given for job expertise, continuing excellence in job performance and overall contribution to the company.

Forty years ago - 1972

A tentative budget for the city of Dunkirk, prepared by Mayor Clem Lutz, calls for a 74-cent cut in the tax rates, it was learned today.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Most business places in Dunkirk were open until 11 o'clock last night for "Midnight Madness." Special bargains plus double the usual amount of Santa-Rama tickets were offered.
