Coverage aids area fund-raiser

Editor, OBSERVER:

As one of the potters who participated in the recent Empty Bowl Project, I wish to thank the OBSERVER for the wonderful and extensive coverage that the newspaper provided to help promote this very worthy cause.

Thanks in large part to this coverage, the turnout was tremendous and, accordingly, the proceeds were significant. Empty Bowls is truly a community effort, and the OBSERVER played an instrumental role in its success.

School tower worth look

Editor, OBSERVER:

If you have not seen the Brocton Central School tower after dark, it is something to put on your "To Do" list. The work has been completed, including magnificent lights.

Right now it is lit with red and green lights. It is an absolute awesome sight. Everyone who was involved in restoring the tower deserves a big thank you.

It is something everyone in Brocton should be very proud of.

Officer plea

in bad taste

Editor, OBSERVER:

We feel it was in poor taste for a former village trustee to use the tragedy of the Newtown, Conn., shooting to criticize the present board for their decisions regarding a part-time school resource officer.

People's emotions are high, and we all are trying to find solutions and ways to prevent more tragedies.

In our opinion, money and more police are not the answer. We don't feel it is appropriate to put pressure on government to mandate solutions for these disasters. We need to be more concerned and understanding of our mankind. The people involved in these unheard of events appear to need help.

We need to reach out to all we come in contact with and not just be concerned with our own lives.

Many 'shocked' in society

Editor, OBSERVER:

And so as a nation, we once again grieve at the senseless killing of 20 innocent children. And we are surprised and shocked! - shocked that such a thing could happen!

But should we be shocked, when we have made it legal in our country for mothers to kill their own children?

Mother Teresa said it best. "But I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child - a direct killing of the innocent child - murder by the mother herself. And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?"
