Twenty years ago - 1992

The top three winners in the city of Dunkirk's holiday decorating contest were: Most Original - Joe Guziec residence at 169 Fizell Ave.; Best Christmas Theme - Sandy Lombardo residence, 108 King St.; and Best Lawn Display - Bill and Wende Adamczak, 825 Washington Ave.

Thirty years ago - 1982

A meeting was held recently at the Sheridan Town Hall to discuss the formation of a new Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Sheridan. Those attending the meeting included Anthony Zafuto of Silver Creek, Chautauqua County VFW commander; Robert Keddie, former town justice; Richard Klees of Silver Creek; Walter Dybeck of Dunkirk, national deputy chief of staff; and Edward Barth, who was the first member to sign up for the new post.

Forty years ago - 1972

Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922 recently honored George E. Wilder, a past exalted ruler, by furnishing a solarium at the Steger Apartments. Mr. Wilder is now a resident of the building.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Members of the Dirty Dozen recently held their first annual family Christmas party in the dining room of the Main Hotel in Forestville.
