RIPLEY - On Dec. 9, a Ripley man was charged with DWI, DWI per se blood alcohol content of .08 percent or higher, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, uninspected motor vehicle, no/insufficient tail lamps.
Around 2:15 a.m., deputies observed a vehicle with insufficient tail lamps traveling on West Main Street in the town of Ripley. Deputies stopped the vehicle, driven by Stephen E. Simpkins, 21, of Ripley, on Maple Avenue in the town of Ripley. After further investigation Simpkins was issued appearance tickets for the Town of Ripley Court for the charges and released to appear at a later date.
CHARLOTTE - On Dec. 15, a Stockton man was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of petit larceny.
Around 10:10 p.m. the sheriff's office received a complaint from a resident on Hall Road in the town of Charlotte that Francis "Frank" Orazio, 22, of Stockton, had stolen property from a residence. Orazio was located by deputies shortly after the complaint was filed and he was taken into custody for fourth-degree grand larceny and two counts of petit larceny. Orazio was arraigned in town of Charlotte court and was committed to Chautauqua County jail in lieu of bail. The case remains under investigation and other charges may be filed.
BROCTON - On Friday, a Fredonia resident was charged with DWI, DWI with blood alcohol content of .08 percent of higher, open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, unlicensed driver and failure to use a turn signal.
Around 10:40 p.m., a deputy stopped Loren E. Johnson, 26, of Fredonia, for allegedly not using a turn signal. While interviewing Johnson, deputies observed an open can of Coors Light in the center console next to Johnson. A license check revealed that Johnson's Nebraska License was expired as well as revoked.
Further investigation led to Johnson being arrested for DWI and later charged with having a BAC higher than .08 percent. Johnson will appear in court at a later date.
MAYVILLE - On Saturday, two people were charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband.
Morgan T. Paddock, 27, of Jamestown, was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband after Paddock allegedly brought in and passed a bag of tobacco to inmate Richard C. Neal, 28, of Mayville, in the Chautauqua County jail. The incident was witnessed by Chautauqua County jail corrections officers.
Paddock was arraigned in the town of Chautauqua Court and released and is scheduled to appear again on a later date. Neal will also face promoting prison contraband charges and a detainer has been filed for Neal out of the town of Chautauqua Court.
RIPLEY - On Friday, a Ripley man was charged with criminal mischief after allegedly shooting at a neighbor's house with a BB gun.
Around 9 a.m., John G. Caldwell, 58, of Ripley, was charged with fourth -degree criminal mischief after an incident which occurred on Dec. 9 in which John Caldwell allegedly shot BBs at his neighbor's windows.
Caldwell allegedly caused damage to the windows by shooting the BBs. Caldwell was issued an appearance ticket is to appear in Ripley court at a later date and time.
