James E. Harrington, 86, of Dunkirk died Saturday morning (Dec. 22, 2012) at the VA Hospital in Buffalo.
He was born March 13, 1926 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Harold and Marie (Mullaney) Harring-ton.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Harrington served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

He attended first and second grade in a one-room schoolhouse in Sheridan. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Dunkirk and the Albany College of Pharmacy, class of 1954.
Mr. Harrington had been employed as a pharmacist at Lake Shore Pharmacy and retired from Brooks Pharmacy in the Plaza/CVS.
Active in Webelo scouting, his memberships include St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, American Legion Post 62, Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922, Kiwanis Club, Mindszenty Men's Club, and St. Mary's Men's Club.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Kopliner) Harrington, whom he married April 11, 1953; two sons, James (Sharon) Harrington of Fredonia and Patrick Harrington of Dunkirk; one daughter, Susan (Robert) Murray of Tonawanda; one sister, Maureen Meadows of Forestville; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Crowell and Darlene Schaeffer.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated Thursday morning at 10 o'clock in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Entombment will be in the Assumption Mausoleum of St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Willow Lodge Hospice Unit, Buffalo VA Hospital 3495 Bailey Ave., Buffalo, NY 14215.
