Twenty years ago - 1992

A Mass was celebrated recently in anticipation of the birth of the Infant Jesus in the barn at the home of Alphonse and Irene Tarnowski on South Roberts Road in Dunkirk. Bundled against the winter cold, families gathered to pray, receive Holy Communion and sing the traditional songs of Christmas with background sounds provided by live farm animals housed in the barn and the family dog. Afterward, the 160 worshipers were served hot chocolate and cookies in the East Town of Dunkirk Fire Hall.

Thirty years ago - 1982

A bright red adaptive chain driver tricycle, complete with hand brakes and a bell, has been delivered to BOCES in Fredonia as a gift from the Zonta Club of the Dunkirk-Fredonia area. The tricycle, which will be used for the therapy program, will allow the students to travel from class to class and will also help further motor development.

"Christmas Customs Around the World" were studied by Mrs. Diana Hamman's first-grade class at School 4 under the direction of their student teacher, Mrs. Peggy Newton.

Fifty years ago - 1962

A 74-year-old Dunkirk native observed his 50th year as a priest on Dec. 21 when he celebrated a solemn high Mass in St. Mary's Church, Dunkirk. This is the first Christmas in Dunkirk for the Rev. William Harding since his ordination on Dec. 21, 1912.
