Eugene E. "Moose" Mohart, 86, of Silver Creek, NY passed away Thursday December 27, 2012. He was born on Au-gust 15, 1926 in Silver Creek, NY, the son of the late Edward and Ida (Held) Mohart. Moose worked for George Bentges Distributors, Owl Homes, Town of Hanover Boat Launch and was retired from Peter Cooper Corporation. Moose served in the U.S. Navy during WW II as a Pharmacists Mate Third Class from 1944-1946. He is survived by his wife Judy (McGee) Mohart, whom he married on June 12, 1954; a daughter Sheila (Rob) Steinorth of Hilton, NY; one grandson Brandon (Christina) Steinorth of Newfield, NY; one great-grandson Noah; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Kenny and Penny (McGee) Canfield; sister-in-law Betty Mohart; very special family friend Nancy Hornburg and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Virginia and his brother Milt. Moose played baseball as a pitcher and first baseman on the Silver Creek Horseshoes along with his brother Milt. The team was managed by their father Ed Mohart. He was a Mason in the Silver Lodge for 42 years, a member of the American Legion, and one of the founding members of the Silver Creek Ambulance Squad, in which he was a member for 15 years. Also a member for 58 years in Silver Creek Hose Company #1, and a member of the Concord Fife and Drum Corp.
Proud to be an original member of the Parkway Bunch, he liked sitting on the front porch and driving down to the Motor Boat Club to "check out" the lake. He enjoyed traveling; most recently to South Dakota to see Mt. Rushmore and Washington, D.C. to visit the WW II Memorial. His favorite place was Disney World which he visited 26 times.
Friends may call at the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel, 160 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, on Saturday January 12, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Please join the family in a celebration of Moose's life at the Silver Creek Fireman's Club, 23 Jackson St., Silver Creek following the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Silver Creek Emergency Squad or the Silver Creek Fire Dept., 162 Central Avenue, Silver Creek, NY 14136.
