Robert F. Leyman, 91, of Heritage Village, Gerry, formerly of Kennedy passed away Friday (December 28, 2012) in Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.
A lifelong area resident he was born October 30, 1921 in Falconer, the son of the late John and Anna Moore Leyman.
Bob was a 1940 graduate of Falconer High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army-Air Force serving during WWII from 1941 to 1945. While serving in the military he was an Administrative Specialist stationed in Iceland, Scotland, England and France. When he was honorably discharged from the military he had earned the rank of Sergeant and received a Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal.

Prior to retirement in 1983 Bob was employed by the International Union of Operating Engineers having operated and maintained heavy equipment. He spent a few years working on the construction of the NYS Thruway.
Bob was a member of the Kennedy Fire Department, Town of Poland Recreation, Planning & Zoning Boards, Cardinal Hills Golf Club and Breezewood Golf Links. In earlier years he had served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader for Troop 75. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and was an avid golfer. During retirement Bob and his wife Posy spent 15 winters in Florida where he enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing.
Surviving are three children: Barry (Shirley) Leyman of Falconer, Nancy (Thomas) Phillips of Dunkirk, Barbara (Rick) Czerniak of Kennedy; four grandchildren: Jason (Tina) Lindahl, Chad (Alecia) Lindahl, Thomas (Allison) Phillips Jr., Jamie Phillips; two step grandchildren: Martin Godwin, James Godwin; two great grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren; three sisters: Doris Silk of Ellington, Lola Keith of Washington State, Margaret Scaneo of Gerry.
He was preceded in death by his wife Rosmond J. "Posy" Finch Leyman whom he married January 1, 1946 in Falconer, who died October 24, 2003; two brothers: Harold Leyman, John Leyman and a sister Martha Benson.
Burial will be in Kennedy Riverside Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the Falconer Funeral Home.
