MAYVILLE George A. "Homer" Stroebel, 83, of 6999 McKay Road Mayville, died Friday (Dec. 28, 2012) in the Veteran's Hospital in Erie, Pa.
He was born April 30, 1929 in Mayville, the son of the late George F. and Laura Larson Stroebel.
George was a veteran of the US Navy from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War.

George had been an Operating Engineer, operating heavy equipment, for Local 17 in Buffalo, N.Y., retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post 8647 VFW, William L. Travis American Legion Post 493, Peacock Lodge F&AM, and the Chautauqua Lake Snowmobile Club, all of Mayville.
George loved and was well known for his work; he also enjoyed reading, playing on his computer, welding, and taking pictures of his family. George was known for his great sense of humor, and his red 1985 GMC Pickup truck. He was also the very first person in Chautauqua County to own a snowmobile. George loved and was very proud of all of his family.
He is survived by his wife Lois Freeman Stroebel whom he married October 13, 1956 in Mayville; three children: George E. Stroe-bel of Mayville, LuAnn M. (Steve) Wright of Westfield, and Shelly A. Frye of Sherman; nine grandchildren: George Stroebel of Buffalo, Marah, Lexi and Carly Stroebel, all of Mayville, Steven Wright Jr. and Lauren Bestine, both of Westfield, Justin, Jennifer, and Julie Frye all of Sherman; one great-grandchild, Tanleigh Bestine of West-field.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: C. Lauraine Mulholland, and Dorothy Draggett.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
No visitation will be ob-served.
