Fredonia's Reed Porterfield was a double winner Friday,w but that was not nearly enough as Panama beat the Hillbillies, 104-78, in boys swimming action.
"Their depth got to us," Fredonia head coach Bob Ball said. "So we just have to get our numbers up. They're getting better every year, so they're going to be good for a while.
"I'm pleased with the way we swam," Ball said. "But in order for us to compete, we have to get our numbers up."
Porterfield took first in the 200-yard IM, as well as the 100 breastroke, touching the wall in respective times of 2:19 and 1:07.91.
Also for the Hillbillies, Jacob Brown took first in the 100 freestyle (:53.66), Trystan Meyer was first in the 100 butterfly (1:05.71). Brown, Porterfield, Meyer and Jack Fiorella helped Fredonia's 200 medley relay team to a win in 1:59.31.
"We're right back at it on Monday versus Olean, who is first in our league," Ball said. "It will be another tough one."
For Panama, Parker Roberts was a double-winner, taking first in the 200 and the 500 freestyle events in times of 2:12.80 and 6:06.01, respectively.
