DHS,?FHS compete at Fredonia State

Dunkirk's Calan Pogorzelski qualified for Sectionals Saturday at Fredonia State, after finishing second in the 600-meter event in a time of 1:46.8, during girls high school indoor track and field action.

Pogorzelski also helped the 4x200 relay team finish third. Joining Pogorzelski were Yvette Hernandez, Lisa Dunbar and Emilee Hanlon.

Amanda Michalski finished the 55 hurdles in a time of :10.03, setting a new Lady Marauder record, which was last set by Hailey Griewisch (:10.14) in 2011. Michalski was also sixth in the triple jump at 30-feet, 6 1/2-inches.

Meanwhile, Hanlon finished fourth in the 55, crossing the finish line in a time of :8.15. Samantha Heminger took seventh in the triple jump with her leap of 29-9 1/2.

In the boys' events, the 4x800 relay team of Ray Tarnowski, Ethan Francis, Kevin Morales and Javier Soto took second in a time of 8:59.3.

Morales was also fifth in the 600 in a time of 1:33.3. Soto (1:33.4) was sixth in the same event. Francis was seventh in the 1,000 in time of 2:55.8 while the 4x200 relay team of Nick Stolinski, Morales, Verek Nixon and Nick Barlette was third in a time of 1:43.1.

Barlette also finished fifth in the 55 in a time of :7.07. Alex Williams was fourth in the shot put for the Marauders with his toss of 40-8 1/2 and Tim Cerrie finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 8-6.

Meanwhile, Rashad Graham took fifth in the long jump at 17-9 1/4.

For Fredonia, the girls' 4x400 relay team shattered the previous school record by 48 seconds, as it finished third in a time of 4:40. On the team were Ally Cobb, Emily Wan, Nicole Woleben and Devin Kowalewski, who also finished third in the 55 hurdles (:09.63) and fifth in the triple jump at 30-10 1/4.

Woleben was fourth in the 55 hurdles at :09.67 and fourth in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 14-8 1/2. Cobb set a personal best in the 300 with her time of :46.4 while Wan was fifth in the 600 (1:55).

Elsewhere, Jillian Kowalski was third and sixth in the 1,500 and 1,000, respectively, crossing the finish line in times of 5:45 and 3:21. Miranda Warner was third in the high jump (4-8), Dana Wirojratana was fourth (4-6), and Courtney Styborski was sixth in the shot put with her toss of 28-11.

In the boys' events, Garet Johnson set a personal-best distance in the triple jump, finishing sixth with his leap of 36-5. Zac Dake, also set a personal best in the triple jump after his leap of 34-8 1/2.

Both Dunkirk and Fredonia will compete Monday at Fredonia State during a jayvee meet.
