Nia Mandissa Robertson, age 23, from Dunkirk, New York died suddenly Wednesday night, Feb. 6, 2013 in Erie, Pa.
She was born April 28, 1989 in Rome, New York, the daughter of Walter Robertson III and Genene Clark-Robertson of Dunkirk.
Nia was raised in Dunkirk, attended School 4, St. Hyacinth School, and graduated from Dunkirk High School in 2007. She played softball, soccer, and basketball, and was very active in her church and community. More than anything, Nia was known for her fantastic sense of humor, and loved by all who knew her.
She attended Jamestown Community College and SUNY Fredonia. She was employed at Ross retail store in Erie. Prior to that she worked with children in day care and was a substitute teacher. A life-long nurturer, her dream was to work with children and share her passion of encouragement and love with them.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her sisters Cori Clark Robertson, Marley Robertson, Taylor Robertson, Maren Robertson and Lola Robertson; and brothers, Walter Gabriel Robertson IV, and Rocco Adamczak. She is also survived by her paternal grandmother Marion Robertson and maternal grandfather James Clark, as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. She also leaves behind her boyfriend Jimmy DeJesus.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:30 in the Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, 39 Matteson Street, Fredonia, NY. The Rev. Alma Thompson and the Rev. Brent Thompson will officiate. Calling hours will be held Sunday from 1:30-3:30 p.m., two hours prior to the service in the church. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
