OBSERVER Staff Report , The OBSERVER

FALCONER - Zach Stevens' 23 points and 14 rebounds helped the Gowanda Panthers (3-14) earn their first CCAA Division 1 boys high school

basketball victory since 2009 Friday with a 61-49 win over the Falconer Golden Falcons.

"We kind of preached the fact this was our last opportunity to get a league win," Gowanda coachAndy Bobseine said. "We mentioned no Gowanda Panther team had won since 2009. We came out firing away."

The Panthers used a 12-9 edge after the first quarter to build a 31-22 halftime advantage.

Shortly into the third quarter, the Panthers built a 20-point lead as Chase Williams and Jordan Young each hit a pair of treys. Williams hit four 3-pointers in the win.

"We were smart and used the shot clock," Bobseine said. "We took care of the ball for the victory."

The final 10 minutes of the game belonged to Stevens as he had 14 points in that time frame.
