Mary R. Salerno, 93, of Silver Creek passed away Friday (Feb. 8, 2013) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, N.Y. surrounded by her family.
She was born Oct. 31, 1919 in Dunkirk, N.Y., the daughter of the late Charles and Minnie (Grutadaria) Rotunda.
A lifelong area resident, Mary worked as a seamstress for Van Raalte Mfg. in Silver Creek, a clerk for LoDico Gift Shop and was a secretary for Dr. Rabinowitz besides being a homemaker.
Mary was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel R.C. Church in Silver Creek. She enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to California to visit her daughter and extended family members.
She was the beloved mother of two sons: Robert C. (Shirley) Salerno of Fredonia and Daniel T. (Carol Marx) Salerno of Dunkirk; a daughter, Sandra A. (Frank) Romagnino of N. Hollywood, Calif.; 12 grandchildren: Donna (Joe) McLeod, Carol (Todd) Dykes, Diane Vento, Robert J. Salerno, Joanne M. Salerno, James T. (Linda Cormier) Salerno, Kathy Romagnino, Debbie (Steve) Vega, Michael (Jennie) Romagnino, Michelle (Doug) Williams, Daniel J. (Kim) Salerno, and Jeffrey (Jen) Salerno, 20 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. All who survive cherished her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Thomas S. Salerno; two sisters: Angela Hopkins and Josephine Fisk; and two brothers: Anthony and Sandy Rotunda.
Prayers will be held Thursday (Feb. 14, 2013) at 9:30 a.m. from the Hole-Parker Funeral Chapel in Silver Creek, N.Y. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday (Feb. 13, 2013) from 3 to 8 p.m.
