BUFFALO - Freshman Lucas Brawdy carried the No. 13 Gowanda Panthers to a 56-47 victory over No. 12 JFK on Tuesday in a Section 6 Class B-2 boys high school basketball first-round game.
The shooting forward scored 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and dished out five assists to lead the charge.
"He was really the only guy who kept us in it the first three quarters," Gowanda coach Andy Bobseine said. "He really saved us. It's funny how you have to have a freshman step up. Hopefully it can lead into bigger and better things for next year as well."
Gowanda trailed 8-6 after the first quarter and 21-16 at halftime. A passionate halftime speech by Bobseine seemed to do the trick as the Panthers outscored the home team, 40-26 in the second half for the victory.
Zach Stevens finished with 14 points for the Panthers.
