Central Avenue accident injures one

A three-car accident sent one to the hospital Thursday afternoon. Dunkirk Police responded to the accident that occurred on Central Avenue near Fifth Street at 3:04 p.m. According to police, a vehicle operated by Michael P. Murphy, 49, of Fredonia was stopped in traffic at the red light. A vehicle operated by Melissa E. Tardi, 19, of Fredonia was hit from behind and pushed in to Murphy's vehicle. A vehicle operated by Kevin R. Schwertfager, 21, of Fredonia was traveling behind Tardi's vehicle when according to police, he looked down at the radio and hit Tardi's vehicle. Schwertfager was charged with following too closely. Tardi was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and later released. Dunkirk Fire Department also responded to the scene.
