Robert Neil Salhoff

Robert Neil Salhoff, age 65, the longtime owner of Neil's Flower Shop in Fredonia, died Thursday February 21, 2013 in Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. Neil was born in Dunkirk on August 12, 1947 to the late Robert and Pauline Franklin Salhoff. A Fredonia native and resident, he attended Fredonia schools and graduated from Fredonia High School Class of 1965. He graduated from Farmingdale University Class of 1967, with a degree in ornamental horticulture. After college, Neil entered the U.S. Army where he served two tours in Viet Nam. He served with the Americal Division at Chu-Lai. He was a recipient of two bronze stars for his military service. After his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army, Neil returned to Fredonia and began his career as a florist. His first job was with Girton's Flower Shop in Jamestown, N.Y. On October 9, 1970 Neil opened Neil's Flower Shop on W. Main Street in Fredonia, where it remained as a mainstay of the downtown Fredonia business district for 39 years until Neil retired in 2009. Neil was a Master Florist for F.T.D., and also belonged to the Tela-Flora flower network.
