SILVER CREEK - After seven years on the Silver Creek Board of Education, Amy Chavez submitted her letter of resignation before the meeting Wednesday.
"I will miss her - she brought a lot of knowledge to the board," Board President Martha Howard said.
Even though Chavez could not be in attendance at the meeting, Howard had a plaque made to honor her time and dedication on the board.

"You provided strength and consistency. Your sense of fairness and concern for the welfare of others was always evident. The children and community are appreciative of your public service to them," the plaque read.
The board accepted Chavez's resignation with regret and wished her good luck in the future.
"In the eight months I have had the pleasure to know her, it has always been clear she had one motivation as a member of the board of education and that was to improve education for the students of Silver Creek," Superinten-dent Daniel Ljiljanich added.
Chavez's seat will be put up for election at the time of the school budget vote. Potential candidates may submit petitions until April 22.
Greg Cole's seat, formerly Louis Dispenza's seat, will also be up for election. Cole will be running for his seat.
The board also appointed Abigail Janca as the second-grade department chair, Caitlin Kane as the ninth and 10th grade advisor, Emily Sack as the girls softball volunteer, William Ferenza as a substitute bus driver, April Walters as a long-term substitute, Kelley Knose as a probationary lunch monitor and Donald Schwertfager as a probationary maintenance mechanic.
