Art Estus to appear on Senior Report
Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Art Estus as the guest on Saturday's television program. Estus will talk about catching the wily trout.
The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities.
Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change.
Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.
Director of WNY Peace Center to speak at Justice Sunday Service
Charles Bowman, interim executive director of the Western New York Peace Center in Buffalo, will address the issues of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and a solar energy farm in Niagara Falls at the Sunday Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua 11 a.m. service of worship in the Fredonia Grange, 58 W. Main St. The congregation's social action committee is designating the service "Justice Sunday."
Bowman is a retired biologist who worked in Albany, the University of Buffalo and the Veterans' Administration doing basic research on membrane biology. He accepted his current position with the WNY Peace Center in March 2011.
The public is invited to attend the service and to engage in after-worship discussion.
Miss Coia benefit wrestling show Saturday evening
The Miss Coia wrestling benefit show will be held in the Silver Creek High School gym Saturday at 7 p.m. WWE Hall of Famer "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and many other wrestlers will be there. Tickets are $10 at the door. Olivia Coia was a teacher at Silver Creek who lost her life to a rare form of breast cancer in 2010. A scholarship was formed in her name.
Tax help is available
The Chautauqua County Earned Income Tax Credit Coalition will have two walk-in VITA sites open Saturday at the SUNY Fredonia Technology Incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk, room 124-125, Dunkirk, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and in the library at Silver Creek High School located at 1 Dickinson Road, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, there will be one appointment only site from 4 to 7 p.m. at the United Way of Northern Chautauqua located at 626 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Please call 366-5424 for an appointment.
An IRS certified volunteer will prepare taxes at no cost. All tax returns are filed electronically. You must bring your social security card and picture identification with you. If you are filing married filing jointly, both spouses must be present to sign required forms.
If you worked in 2012, but earned less than the income guidelines, you may be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit - even if you are not required to file an income tax return.
