Northern Chautauqua County Club Association
The Northern Chautauqua County Club Association recently held its regular monthly meeting at the Dom Polski Club in Dunkirk. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence for deceased members of the clubs. Club President Mike Phillips welcomed the group.
Roll call of officers and clubs was taken. Secretary Janet Rozen read the minutes of the last meeting, and Treasurer Janis Dibb gave the financial report. Motions were made and seconded to approve both reports.
Guests included Dunkirk Mayor Anthony Dolce, Judge A.J. Pulci, and former Mayors Richard Frey and Charles St. George. Special guests were Gene Pauszek, OBSERVER columnist, and Zenon Olow, associated with numerous sportsman organizations.
The guest speaker was Chautauqua County Undersheriff Chuck Holder, a 25-year veteran of the Sheriff's Department, who spoke about the New York State Safe Act. He said that the law was passed incredibly fast, with no debate, little discussion and very little thought. His PowerPoint presentation showed both good and bad points of the new law, and how proper enforcement of current laws could be more productive. To those who supported repealing the law, Sheriff Holder recommended contacting local county representatives. A lengthy question and answer period followed.
Donations were made to the Sheridan VFW and the Columban Sisters.
The next meeting will be held Sunday, March 24, 10:30 a.m. at the Fredonia Beaver Club. Members of all clubs are invited.
