A man wanted in Puerto Rico has been caught in the city of Dunkirk Friday. Argenis Josue Gonzalez-Vargas, 25, was arrested following a traffic stop on West Courtney Street and Lincoln Avenue.
Dunkirk Police stopped the vehicle Gonzalez-Vargas was operating for an expired registration just before 4:30 p.m. Further investigation revealed Gonzalez-Vargas was wanted by officials from the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on a felony warrant for violating of his probation on a felony drug charge. Gonzalez-Vargas had allegedly fled the country to avoid prosecution for violating probation, which he had been sentenced to in relation to a felony conviction on a charge of dangerous drugs. Officials from Puerto Rico confirmed the warrant and their intention to extradite Gonzalez-Vargas back to the country
He was charged with being a fugitive from justice, a felony, and having an unregistered motor vehicle. Gonzalez-Vargas was transported to Dunkirk Police where he was held without bail.

He will be arraigned in Dunkirk City Court today and will then likely be transferred to the Chautauqua County Jail while extradition proceedings start.
A passenger in the vehicle, Isai Garcia-Santiago was found to have an outstanding warrant for criminal impersonation out of the city of Jamestown. He was turned over to the Jamestown Police Department.
