The village of Fredonia will be adding two Democrats to the village board. Susan Forrester-Mackay and Phyllis Jones both won seats Monday.
According to the County Board of Elections, just over 1,500 people turned out to vote on Monday at Wheelock Central School with 35 votes separating the highest and lowest number of votes. Running for two trustee positions in addition to Mackay and Jones were Republicans Michael Vinciguerra and Mary Jane Starks. Jones received 397 votes, Mackay received 396, Vinciguerra received 371 and Starks received 362.
At Republican headquarters, Starks said she was disappointed that she did not win. Vinciguerra was glad residents went out to vote.

"Congratulations to all of (the winners)," he said. "The community spoke and they got out and voted."
Following the results, those who won were celebrating at Democratic headquarters. Both Jones and Mackay were pleased with the results.
"I'm so pleased for all the people that voted for me and supported me," Jones said.
Mackay believed the results were the best decision the community could have made. She said there needs to be some changes within the village and the board needs to work on what is best for the village.
"I think the village made the best decision. I thinks this is a good change," she said. "Local politics shouldn't be Democratic or Republican. It should be what is best for the village."
Mayor Stephen Keefe said he has worked with both of the women previously and is thrilled to be working with them once again. Keefe said Mackay is a hard worker and will follow through on issues. Jones, he said, is more analytical.
"It's a winning combo for the village," Keefe said.
Also on Monday, residents voted for David Prince who ran for village justice uncontested. All will take office April 1.
