Edwin S. Cieslewicz, 91, of Dunkirk, NY died Sun-day morning (Feb. 24, 2013) at the Country Club Retirement Center in Ashtabula, Ohio.
He was born Sept. 14, 1921 in Dunkirk, the son of the late Adam and Constance (Czarnowski) Cieslewicz.
A lifelong Dunkirk resident, Mr. Cieslewicz was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon with Three Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Ribbon.
He had been employed by the city of Dunkirk in the maintenance department.
His memberships included VFW John T. Murray Post 1017, Kosciuszko Polish Home and Local 912. He attended Holy Trinity Church.
Mr. Cieslewicz enjoyed gardening, horse racing and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Katherine (John) Parmarter of Meadville, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jean (Josh) Duda of Brooksville, Fla., John Parmarter of Erie, Pa., June (Clint) Penniman of Conneaut, Ohio, and Jenny (Sean) Singer of Meadville; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Isabella H. (Tilly) Cieslewicz, whom he married Oct. 11, 1946 and who died April 11, 2009; and four brothers, Victor, John, Felix and Thomas Cieslewicz.
Memorial services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph Zalacca will officiate. Burial will be in Willowbrook Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council, c/o Mr. Jack Sievert, 49B Seel Acres, Dunkirk, NY 14048.
