Members of Norman Yonkers' Karate Connection MMA Academy Grappling Team went north of the border to compete in the Nexus MMA Invitational Grappling Tournament Feb. 16 in Beamsville, Ont.
Michael Benedict led the team's effort with a pair of first-place finishes in the Gi and No-Gi tournaments. Tristan Moldenhauer claimed a win and a third-place finish while Ryan Harvey and Adam Sellari each took home a first-place and a second-place finish.

Yonkers trains the team in Gokor Chivichyan's Hayastan Grappling System.
Next up for the team will be the New York State Grappling Championship April 13 at Fredonia High School, an event the MMA Academy promotes.
