OLEAN - The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging announced that it will be holding Mayors/Legislators For Meals Day as part of its March For Meals campaign. Mayors, legislators and elected officials will be participating in the event to show support for the county's homebound and hungry seniors. Locally, Legislator Paula Stockman and Mayor Karen Strickland will be delivering meals in South Dayton.
This year's Mayors/Legislators for Meals event on Wednesday, March 20, will include a volunteer recruitment incentive; participating elected officials are encouraged to bring a friend to volunteer.
March for Meals is a national campaign held during the month of March initiated by Meals On Wheels Association of America, which seeks to raise awareness of senior hunger and encourage action on the part of the local community.
The Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging delivers approximately 525 meals daily, Monday through Friday, to frail and elderly homebound seniors.
