WNY Peace Center director decries use of drones

March 16, 2013
The OBSERVER

Charley Bowman, interim executive director of the Western New York Peace Center in Buffalo, addressed the Unitarian-Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua during its March 3 service of worship in the Fredonia Grange. The service date was titled "Justice Sunday."

Bowman highlighted the Peace Center's current emphasis on opposing U.S. use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). He contended that employment of drones for targeted assassinations violates several principles of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights - for which the U.S. voted on Dec. 10, 1948. The Declaration is considered part of customary international law.

An implication of the violations is that the persons "executed" by the drones are not being tried, and convicted, by proper court procedure.
