PANAMA - The Chautauqua County Fire Investigation Team responded to assist the Panama Fire Department on March 13 for a house fire at 13 South St. Following an investigation into the cause of the fire, it has been determined an improperly installed exhaust pipe leading from the wood stove into a chimney caused the fire.
CHAUTAUQUA - Joseph P. Mahoney, 75, of Lackawanna was traveling west on Hartfield Stockton Road Saturday morning. Due to unsafe speed and slippery road conditions, his vehicle left the roadway and overturned in a steep ditch trapping Mahoney inside the vehicle. He was extracted by Hartfield Rescue and was taken to Westfield Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. During the investigation, a second vehicle operated by Ashley Draggett of Stockton failed to reduce speed at the scene, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway and struck a mailbox. The roadway was closed for approximately one hour. Charges are pending.
