Peggyann J. Griewisch, 72, of the Cassadaga and Fredonia areas died peacefully Monday evening (March 18, 2013) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. After bravely battling many complex medical issues, Peggyann has gone to join her Lord and Savior and the many beloved family members and friends who have passed on before her.
She was born Sept. 8, 1940 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Robert C. and Alice A. (Yauch) Wamsley.
Raised in Buffalo and then Angola after her father died, Peggyann was a graduate of Lake Shore High School, Class of 1957. She worked at the NYS Dept. of Motor Vehicles for many years before becoming the proprietor of Henri's Tavern in Cassadaga with her late husband, Jack "Beef" Griewisch.
Peggyann loved caring for family and friends. She enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Florida to visit her many friends. She also enjoyed playing with her cats and telling stories. The love she shared with family, especially her nephew Alan, gave her her greatest pleas-ure later in life.
She was a member of the Lily Dale Spiritualist, WOTM 294 of Dunkirk and a lifetime member of the Fredonia Beaver Club.
Survivors include her brother, George (Susan) Wamsley of Cassadaga; her sister, Gloria (Arthur "Doc") Horton of Silver Creek; one granddaughter, Megan Griewisch of Colorado; two nephews, George (Nicci) Wamsley of Sheridan and Alan Wamsley of Cassadaga; one niece, Jennilyn (John) Fiala of St. Louis, MO; and two great nephews, Lincoln Wamsley and John Fiala.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack "Beef" Griewisch; her stepson, Larry Griewisch; two nephews, Robert Wamsley and Bradley Horton; and companion, Anthony Mignoli.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. The Rev. Molly T. Golando will officiate. Burial will be in Burnham Hollow Cemetery, Arkwright, NY.
