CASSADAGA - The Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary recently met for its regular monthly meeting with President Sue Penhollow presiding. The meeting was opened with a prayer from Chaplain Paula Pattison, the Pledge of Allegiance, the Auxiliary preamble, a moment of silence for fallen soldiers, and roll call of officers. In the absence of Secretary Carol Baker, the minutes of the last meeting were read by Gayle Cieplinski. The treasurer's report was given by Karen Field. Both were accepted.
Correspondence was read by Penhollow.
The children's Easter party is scheduled to be held Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Post. There will be an Easter egg hunt, games, crafts, goodies to eat, and the Easter Bunny will be visiting, too.
Membership was reported on by Sally Lawson. The unit is at 84 percent for the year. Any unpaid Unit 1280 members can stop by and pay their dues at the bar or send them to Lawson.
In old business, Unit 1280 member and Chautauqua County Auxiliary President Charyle Tyler reminded the members present about her president's project raffle, an American flag afghan she made. All the proceeds from this raffle will be going to the Warriors Family Assistance program. Tyler also reported that the luncheon for Commander Tim Van Patton, President Sally Johnson and Detachment Commander John J. Knapp Sr. went very well. A thank you from the president was read for the good food and great hospitality.
In new business, it was noted that the April 11 Legion Auxiliary County meeting will be at the Post. It is a joint meeting with the Legion and Sons. The menu for dinner was discussed, as well as hall decorations for the event.
Unit 1280 set their nominating committee for 2013-2014 Unit Officers: Sue Lehnen and Lawson will be the name takers this year.
Unit members present voted to donate money to the Cassadaga After-Prom Party.
As a reminder, the Post 1280 is still taking in $20 for the 2013 Post 1280 Flag Program that flies American flags throughout our community from Memorial Day through Veteran's Day. A plaque is made to show whose honor the flag is flying for and who donated it. This is an annual renewable program, and also anyone new that is interested should contact Bruce Kaus at the Post.
Unit 1280 member Cieplinski has been sending out Post notices by email. If Post 1280 members would like to receive notice of upcoming events by email, send your email address to email@example.com or stop by the Post and drop it off.
Those who have submitted their address and haven't received it should check with Unit 1280 and make sure it was entered correctly.
Unit 1280 continues to collect coupons for overseas families, Labels for Education, Pennies for Hospice, can tabs and canceled postage stamps. Unit 1280 also sells corn brooms for $8; anyone interested may call the Post at 595-3145.
