Cell phone call leads to accident

An accident in the city of Dunkirk injured one person on March 16. At 11:47 p.m. Dunkirk Police responded to a one-car accident on Franklin Avenue in Dunkirk. According to police, Iris M. Gonzalez, 46, of Fredonia was driving south on Franklin when she received a phone call. Gonzalez told police she leaned over to answer the phone and realized she had driven into a ditch. The vehicle came to rest on the passenger side on the west side of Franklin Avenue near Tenney Street. Gonzalez had to be extricated by Dunkirk Fire Department. She was taken to Brooks Memorial Hospital by Alstar Ambulance. The vehicle was towed and Gonzalez was charged with using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and failure to use designated lane.
