Elected officials may not always deliver news their constituents want to hear, but earlier this month they took time out of their schedules to deliver something more important: meals.
Mayors A.J. Dolce of Dunkirk and Steven Keefe of Fredonia. and incoming mayor Nicodemo Piccolo of Silver Creek delivered meals to the elderly along with supervisors Todd Johnson from Town of Hanover, Louis Delmonte from Sheridan and Daniel Schrantz of Portland. Their efforts were part of the national "March for Meals" campaign done locally by the Dunkirk-Fredonia Meals on Wheels.
As many may already know, while the meal delivery is important what is just as important is the volunteer checking on those who are home-bound and living independently. Currently, the agency is delivering to more than 170 residents in the north county region.
And if area officials can do it, there is no reason other volunteers cannot step up to assist as well. To help this agency, call 366-8822.
