The Fredonia Fire Department and the Fredonia Police Department both received praise at a recent board meeting for quick action in two separate incidents.
Mayor Stephen Keefe read a letter received from workers at Howard Hanna Holt Real Estate praising the village fire department. An electrical fire broke out at the business located on East Main Street in early February.
"I want to commend the village of Fredonia, the village fire department, the department of public works and the businesses in the community in helping us with a recent fire in our business," Keefe read from the letter. "The quick response from the fire department prevented an electrical fire from spreading throughout our building. What could have been a catastrophe, a loss to our company is only a minor interruption in our business."

The Fredonia Fire and Police departments both received praise at the Fredonia Village Board meeting. Pictured, from left are Trustees Adam Brown and Thomas Brown II, Village Administrator Richard St. George and Mayor Stephen Keefe.
The letter also commended the village's streets department for providing barricades to block off the sidewalk in front of the business following the fire, and community members who stepped up offering help.
Keefe also commended the police department for quick response to a shooting that occurred in the village in mid-March.
"You put your lives at risk sometimes. (It was) a quick result to a very dangerous situation," Keefe said.
Keefe also thanked Trustees Adam Brown and Thomas Brown II for their time spent on the board. Both men decided to not run for re-election in the village elections recently when their seats on the board were up.
"Thank you for hard work and dedication for four years," he said.
The board also approved John Lanphere as second assistant chief as elected by the fire department and Paul Luce was appointed to the zoning board of appeals. The village also approved a quit claim for a paper street for Whittier Place at 37 Holmes Place.
