Wednesday, May 1, marks the beginning of National Pet Month along with the official kick-off of the Cutest Pet Contest at the Dunkirk Free Library, sponsored by the Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library. To vote, simply visit the library and put any amount of money into the can of your pick for "the cutest pet." Competition is fierce, including a Burmese Mountain Dog named Harold and a mini horse named Ringo Starr.
Votes may be cast throughout the month of May. Each week, the leading pet will be posted on the Friends' Facebook page, www.facebook.com/pages/Friends-of-the-Dunkirk-Free-Library. The winner will receive a pet gift basket, and his or her picture will be featured in the OBSERVER. Second and third place winners will also receive a prize. Winners will be notified by phone and announced on Facebook and at the Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library's Annual Book Sale on Saturday, June 8.
All proceeds from the Cutest Pet Contest will go toward funding community computer classes at the library. There is still room to register a few more late-entry pets for the contest. For more information, stop by the library and pick up a registration form from the contest table. The next meeting for the Friends of the DFL will be held Tuesday, May 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the library. New members are always welcome. Look for more information on the Book Sale coming soon.
