BROCTON - The Brocton Bulldogs (5-2, 6-4) used a complete-game outing by Wade Austin en route to a 7-2 victory over the Sherman Wildcats Tuesday in CCAA Division 4 high school baseball action.
Austin struck out eight batters and walked two in seven innings of work.
"He kept us in the game with his pitching," Brocton coach Terry Presto said. "We didn't play very good defense and we've had better days at the plate. It came down to Wade coming through for us on the mound.
Scot Laurie led the Brocton offense with a two-run single in the top of the second. Tayler Appel had an RBI single in the first while Dan Ferguson went 1 for 4 with an RBI.
Jake Ames went 2 for 3 to lead the Wildcats in defeat while Cory Alger had a 2-for-2 outing. Ethan Lyon's double was the only extra-base hit in the contest.
Brocton plays Westfield in non-league action today before a Friday return to league play against Ellicottville.
