WESTFIELD - This is the second year of the Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's "all new with some old" event. Last year the auxiliary did some "spring cleaning," making some changes and keeping some things the same.
"Celebrating Spring," a luncheon at Chautauqua's elegant Athenaeum Hotel, was well received and proved to be a breath of fresh air for those patrons in attendance. The auxiliary welcomes community members to be treated to coffee and a sweet treat while visiting purveyors of fine merchandise in the hotel lobby, followed by a buffet lunch, musical entertainment and a chance to win the grand prize, "A Spa Day" at Westfield's Main Street Salon and Company.
This is the 14th year for this spring event and the Westfield Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is pleased with the success of this fundraiser. The auxiliary is grateful to those who have supported the organization through the years (some since the very first year). As always, all proceeds benefit Westfield Memorial Hospital.
"Celebrating Spring 2013" will take place Saturday, May 11. Tickets are $25 all inclusive and can be purchased at Four Seasons (326-4293), Mathews Jewelers (326-2017), Main Street Salon & Co. (326-3000), Uptown Dressers (753-2116) or call Marilyn Hemmer for information and tickets at 326-3504 or 753-6043. Gentlemen, as well as ladies, are encouraged to attend. The ticket is also an entry in the spa day grand prize drawing and two free tickets for the Chinese auction. Parking is available in the main lot at Chautauqua Institution or on the grounds on a "first come, first served" basis.
If interested in some shopping before lunch, vendors open at 9 a.m. and are there until the event closes. This year's vendors include Old Glory Candles, Jewels by Parklane, Uptown Dresser, Touch of Glass, Beth's Parkview, Tastefully Simple, Rogala's Vintage Treasurers, Gale Street Studios, Jessica Nolan's Country and Nautical Decor, and Main Street Salon and Co. The hospital auxiliary will debut "The Welcome to Westfield Sign," the seventh in a series of ornaments, magnets and thimbles. The Lottery Ticket Tree will also be available for those who are feeling lucky. Again this year, there will be a Chinese auction with items donated by vendors and Auxiliary Board members. Every patron receives two free tickets for the auction. Additional tickets may be purchased for $1 each, five tickets for $3, or 10 tickets for $5.
The luncheon buffet begins at noon and will remain available until all are served. The sumptuous menu includes mixed green salad with assorted dressings, lemon baked cod with vodka dill sauce, grilled marinated flank steak with chimichurri, vegetable lasagna with charred tomato sauce, herb roasted red bliss potatoes, oven baked corn pudding, seasonal vegetables, assorted breads and rolls, assorted cakes and cookies, chocolate-dipped strawberries and assorted beverages.
Following lunch, guests will have an opportunity to meet Patty Ballman and then be entertained by the CLCS Chorale. Prizes will be awarded at the end of the program.
The Auxiliary Board hopes everyone will join them for a day of fun and fellowship. Events like this help the auxiliary to continue to carry out projects at Westfield Memorial Hospital.
