GIBSONIA, Pa. - The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced its award winners for softball and the Medaille Lady Mavs were well represented as senior Mary Kate Bongiovanni (Fredonia) was selected as the Player of the Year as she performed brilliantly in 2013, finishing with a .445 average, 29 runs and 25 RBIs.
Bongiovanni was good on the base paths as well, as she safely stole 13 of 14 bases on the season. Of her 49 hits, 13 of them were for extra bases (eight doubles, a triple, and four home runs) while posting a .645 slugging percentage and boasting a .456 on-base percentage as well. She did all of this while only striking out eight times in 110 at-bats. She was the lone Medaille player on the First-Team.
The Lady Mavs had a tremendous turnaround season and nearly made the playoffs, narrowly missing on tiebreakers. They will look to their youth to try gain a spot in the 2014 playoffs.
