Area rodeo fans will be able to enjoy the most exciting summer of rodeo action ever as the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department has added a second event to their schedule featuring two nights of "Bulls and Barrels" on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, in addition to their 69th annual rodeo in August.
"Bulls and Barrels" will feature two hours of action with dangerous bull riding sanctioned by the Southern Extreme Bull Riding Association as approximately 30 cowboys will attempt 8-second rides each night with $5,000 in prize money up for grabs.
The bulls are being brought to Gerry by the Painted Pony Rodeo Company of Lake Luzerne, N.Y. Cowgirls will add to the excitement of the evening as they will race around the barrels' cloverleaf pattern in their timed event between the sections of bull riding.
Area rodeo fans will get two full nights of bull riding and barrel racing in Gerry on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1.
A special feature both nights will be the appearance of Bert Davis, the nationally known Coppertown Clown, with his 10 trained dogs, known as the "Muttley Crew." The Crew is made up of dogs he has rescued from shelters across the country. Davis has appeared at rodeos nationwide, including the National Finals in Las Vegas, as well as making many TV appearances during his 35 years as a rodeo clown and barrel man. His website is Coppertownclown.com.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night in the arena six miles north of Jamestown on Route 60. Gates will open at 6, but the midway will open at 5 and will feature displays and concessions, including the Gary Rodeo's famous barbeque beef sandwiches.
Adults tickets are $15, children ages 4 to 8 are $10, and three and under are free. Six lucky fans will be chosen each night for an attempt to throw a horseshoe into a barrel for a $100 prize.
The 69th annual PRCA rodeo featuring all seven traditional rodeo competitive events is set for five performances July 31 through August 3. Additional information about either event is available at the rodeo website gerryrodeo.org or by phone at (716) 985-4847 or 1-888-985-4847.
