Blessed Mary Angela Rosary Society
Blessed Mary Angela Rosary Society met on May 6 at St. Hedwig's Social Center. President Martha Bialaszewski greeted all present. She and the other officers led the recitation of the Rosary and prayers for ill and deceased members.
The opening prayer for the meeting was read by Irene Rozumalski. Secretary Carole Schiller read the minutes from the April 8 meeting and Treasurer Lucille Bartkowski gave the financial report. Both were accepted by all.
No May birthdays were celebrated. The attendance prize was won by Betty Kern.
Bialaszewski reported that on April 28 a parish group attended an event honoring Blessed Mary Angela on the 20th anniversary of her beatification. The event was held at the Felician Sisters Villa Maria Convent. A mass was celebrated by Bishop Grasz in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, time was spent visiting with Sister Bronisia and a group dinner was shared in the dining hall.
The Society's second fundraiser of the year will be a luncheon card party held on Wednesday, May 15 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Hedwig's Social Center. Reservations can be made with Bialaszewski at 366-0935.
On Monday, May 13 an Our Lady of Fatima mass with veneration of a first class relic of Pope John Paul II will be at St. Hyacinth's church at 6:30 p.m. A reception will follow at the Lyceum.
The Holy Name Society is having a stuffed chicken breast dinner at the Social Center on June 12 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.
The next meeting will be Monday, June 3 at 7 p.m. at the Lyceum.
The closing prayer was said by Loretta Szalkowski.
Refreshments were served from a table with the Blessed Mother blue napkins and candles by Jenny Naruszewicz, Annabelle Reilly, Elvina Root, Rozumalski and Jane Steffan. Bingo was played and a raffle was held. Bialaszewski won the blue decorated basket of flowers.
Mt. Carmel Social Club
Thirty-two members of the Mt. Carmel Social Club met Wednesday, May 1. Carm Tampio called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer by Carm Morabito. All officers gave their reports, with the exception of Jeannette Mula, who was missing. All reports were accepted by the group. It was decided that the club would purchase refreshments for meetings should members prefer not to bring them.
People are reminded to call and pay for the Mother's and Father's days banquet on May 15 at 12:30 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk. Call 934-3349 for reservations and more information.
A speaker was present at the meeting to discuss safety on the sidewalks in Silver Creek. Literature on this topic is available at the Mt. Carmel Hall.
A 50/50 drawing was held, as was Bingo.
The next gathering of the group will be May 15 at the Clarion Hotel in Dunkirk.
