The stage is set.
The Section 6 Class B crossover game will take place today at 5 p.m. at Russell E Diethrick Park in Jamestown between the Class B-2 champion Fredonia Hillbillies and the Class B-1 Champions Tonawanda Warriors.
"They are a good, strong team," Fredonia coach Vince Gullo said of Tonawanda. "They have won their Division three of the last four years. We have our work cut out for us."
Fredonia’s Cameron?Voss will be the starting pitcher tonight when the Hillbillies take on?Tonawanda in the Section 6 Class B?Crossover game at Diethrick Park at 5 p.m.
The Warriors are on a 14-game win streak and will send Jared Zelner to the mound. Fredonia will counter with Cameron Voss.
Fredonia advanced to tonight's championship game with an unimpressive 6-2 win Wednesday over Akron. Meanwhile, Tonawanda punched its ticket into tonight's title game with a 5-3 win over Springville.
"We worked on our fundamentals and got our heads in the right place," Gullo said of his team's practice Thursday. "We need a good pitching performance and strong defense. We have to have timely hitting. That's what we were missing yesterday."
Trent Thompson threw 51 pitches Wednesday and will be available for relief duty if called upon, according to Gullo.
"We need strong pitching, Gullo reiterated. "We need our defense to continue to make the routine plays."
One factor which is in Fredonia's favor is the fact it has played three games at Diethrick Park.
"We have played there a few times," Gullo said. "There is a little familiarity there. It's definitely not a bad thing."
