In a potential lawsuit against the Ripley Central Schools and its board for acting illegally, a quote from the attorney Steven M. Cohen made us laugh out loud.
"We have evidence of self-dealing, nepotism and misappropriation of funds which we are turning over to the comptroller," Cohen said.
Is Cohen talking about just the Ripley schools or just about every Western New York municipality and school district when he says that? Part of the problem of merging schools or consolidating municipalities in our state has to do with the buddy system. The current system, while a burden for taxpayers, has plenty of perks for those who work in it.
So maybe there is nepotism in Ripley schools. But trust us, it is alive and well in other governments and school districts in our region.
