WESTBURY - The New York State School Music Association is proud to recognize 20 of its members who were among the 217 music educators across the country announced as quarterfinalists for the new Music Educator Award sponsored by the Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation. In all, more than 30,000 nominations were received from all 50 states. The quarterfinalists were selected from 195 cities across 45 states.
Selected from the area was Kent Knappenberger of Westfield Academy and Central School School.
The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current music educators who teach students in grades kindergarten through college. They have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.
NYSSMA is the largest state affiliate of the National Association for Music Education. Its mission is to advocate for and improve music education across New York state by promoting and producing appropriate activities and programs for its membership and students in member school music programs.
