Sweeping victories

June 5, 2013
The OBSERVER

Local high school baseball and softball teams recorded a clean sweep of their Section 5 foes Tuesday in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Far West Regionals. Here Weston Ley connects on a pitch for the Fredonia Hillbillies, who avenged last year's loss to Wayland-Cohocton with a 2-0 victory in the Class B baseball Far West Regional at Diethrick Park in Jamestown. Joining them in Binghamton will be the Pine Valley Panthers, who defeated Lyndonville, 3-2, in the Class D Far West Regional at Batavia's Dwyer Stadium to return to States for the second straight season. The Pine Valley Lady Panthers are headed to the NYSPHSAA Softball Tournament in Queensbury Saturday after a 2-1 defeat of Andover in a Class D Far West Regional at Olean High School.
