It appears the Lake Erie Regional Health System of New York is laying off more of its employees, but this time in Dunkirk.
Several people contacted the OBSERVER, stating that they were aware of staff members being laid off from Brooks Memorial Hospital. One official, who declined to be identified, said about 30 individuals would be laid off.
The OBSERVER reached out to Scott A. Butler, LERHSNY vice president for marketing and community relations, for comment. In an e-mail, Butler wrote, "We are not ready to make any statements at this time, but I will certainly let the OBSERVER know when we are ready to do so."
Along with Brooks Hospital, LERHSNY also oversees Lake Shore Health Care Center in Irving. Last month, individuals who worked there contacted the OBSERVER stating they had been laid off. Butler confirmed there were "staffing changes" but would not comment on specific numbers.
SEIU 1199 Community Coordinator Franchelle Hart could not be reached Tuesday. In May, Hart said that 11 union members and all the per diem staff were let go from Lake Shore Nursing Home, a part of the Health Care Center.
Dunkirk Mayor Anthony J. Dolce was asked Tuesday evening if his office or city officials have heard about the layoffs.
"No, we have not," Dolce replied.
