JAMESTOWN - Recently, a group of 90 students from across Chautauqua County met at the Robert H. Jackson Center for the third annual Spelling Bee presented by the Chautauqua County Youth Corps. Class champions from third through sixth grades competed for the title of countywide top speller for their grade.
Youth Corps is proud to announce the top spellers for 2013. For third grade, Cameron Crowell from Fredonia Elementary School went 20 rounds to win. Calvin Ricker of Lincoln Elementary School went 14 rounds to win for fourth grade. It took only seven rounds for Miles Wilkin of Bemus Point Elementary School to clinch the fifth-grade title. Kristin Kelemen from Bemus Point Elementary School went 11 rounds to win for sixth grade.
Special thanks needs to be extended to all of the teachers and school administration for their support in helping to select the class champions who had the opportunity to compete. Guest judges this year were Michael Magnuson and Lucia Teresi of the Prendergast Library.
