July 9, 2013
The OBSERVER

Marilynn N. (Long) Schulenberg, 90, of Dunkirk died peacefully Monday morning (July 8, 2013) at Absolut at Dunkirk. A lifelong Dunkirk resident, she was born Sept. 7, 1922 in Dunkirk, the daughter of the late Eddie and Barbra (Widman) Long. She now joins her husband, David G. Schulenberg in heaven. He passed away Feb. 29, 2012. The high school sweethearts who had known each other since childhood had been married 70 years on Feb. 12, 2012. While her husband was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, Marilynn was employed at S. S. Kresge's in Dunkirk. In later years, she was employed at Montgomery Ward Catalog Store in Dunkirk. She joined her husband in retirement in 1981, when they became "snowbirds," spending the winter months at their home in Sarasota, Florida. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Dunkirk Senior Citizens, Grape Bunch Camping Club and a past member of the American Legion Post 62 Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs and Home Bureau. Mrs. Schulenberg enjoyed square dancing, round dancing and balloom dancing, taking lessons with her husband upon their retirement. She also enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, camping, knitting, crocheting, and playing cards and games, but her passion and favorite pastime was Bingo. Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Jack)
