The Dunkirk Republican Committee met June 27 at the Elks Club. With the upcoming fall election close at hand, petitions for candidates seeking to have their names entered on the Republican line were collected. Committee members collected twice the number of signatures needed.
The committee is endorsing incumbent Mike Michalski for 1st Ward Councilman, Vince Horrigan for the position of County Executive, Larry Barmore for County Clerk and David Foley for District Attorney.
Other issues discussed included the annual picnic. This year's picnic will be held on Aug. 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Hose 4 Fireman's Grounds at Point Gratiot. For more information about the picnic, contact Truman Bradley at 366-2166 or Bill Tuggle at 366-8370.
The upcoming public hearing regarding NRG and Senator Cathy Young's efforts to keep NRG up and running in Dunkirk was discussed. NRG continues to play a vital role in the economic stability of the entire Chautauqua region, and the committee is encouraging all area citizens to attend this meeting on July 15 at FSUC, Williams Center at 6 p.m.
