FISHTAIL - The Fredonia All-Star softball team is moving on to the 9-10-Year-Old New York State Little League state championships game today, following a 5-0 victory over Southshore in the semifinal game Thursday.
Megan Kyte pitched Fredonia to victory with a three-hitter. She fanned nine and walked one. She also received a solid defensive effort from Anna Buchanan behind the plate, Caelin Holt at second bae, Kazlin Beers at shortstop, Emily Smith at third base and Kelly Gullo at first base.
Fredonia scored two runs in the opening inning as Smith led off with a single and scored on an RBI double from Beers. Beers scored on a sacrifice fly from Buchanan.
In the second inning, Holt reached on a base hit and scored on a wild pitch for a 3-0 lead.
Fredonia added two more runs in the third inning to secure the win as Buchanan and Holt crossed home plate.
The All-Stars from Northern Chautauqua County will play for the championship today against North Bellmore North Merrick from Long Island at 5:30 p.m.
