A powerful player in New York state politics paid a visit to the city of Dunkirk today.
United States Sen. Charles Schumer was in Dunkirk to talk about the repowering of the NRG Dunkirk coal-fired power plant to one which uses a combined-cycle natural gas system.
Speaking to a crowd on the city's pier with the NRG plant looming in the background, Schumer made it clear why he came.

"I am here today to lend my voice to the chorus of those supporting repowering of the NRG plant to burn natural gas. It is the way to go," Schumer stated.
