Citizen and taxpayer vs. Washington. It has become quite a fight.
Is it partisan politics or representation for the good of the taxpayer and citizen? What are we as voters thinking?
We elect our politicians to represent us, but are they really doing their job or are they just thinking of themselves? Each new term the freshmen Congress has their photo taken on the steps of the "Hill" and our representation ends there. They get sucked into the chaos of Washington; working daily raising money for their re-election and following party guidelines. They get re-elected over 90 percent of the time by utilizing our donations. Mark Leibovich in his book "This Town" describes how D.C. rewards more than anything self-perpetuation. "It's a revolving door; it has become a place that people don't leave and it keeps sustaining itself."
Currently 50 percent of senators and 42 percent of Congressmen go on to become lobbyists; in 1974 it was just 3 percent. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell stated they will do everything possible not to get President Obama re-elected; although that didn't work out as hard as they tried.
Speaker of the House John Boehner says their job is to repeal legislation, not pass new bills. And we keep re-electing these people?
Something has to change, sooner or later or we're going to be in even more trouble than we think we are.
