Glenn Alan Hughes, 46, died on July 23, 2013, in New Orleans, LA. Glenn was born January 14, 1967 in Rochester, NY to Virgil "Bill" Hughes and Shirley Snyder Hughes.
Glenn grew up in Fredonia, NY and was a 1985 graduate of Fredonia High School. Following graduation, Glenn enlisted in the Army and served in one of the Army's most elite units as a paratrooper and infantryman.
After leaving military service, Glenn traveled the country, working in the construction trades and liv-ing in a number of places throughout the Southeast, including Savannah, GA, and Nags Head, NC, before settling on a large tract of land in East Texas. Glenn maintained his permanent home in Texas, but relocated to New Orleans in 2005 in order to help in the re-building efforts following Hurricane Katrina.
Glenn's life was always marked by a drive to help others, especially those less fortunate than himself, and he had a special affinity for animals, personally adopting a number of rescue dogs, and saving others that were later able to find loving homes.
Glenn is survived by his father and stepmother, Bill and Veronica Hughes of Plano, TX and his mother Shirley Snyder of Rochester, NY. He is also survived by his sister Michelle (JR McCutcheon) Hughes of Virginia Beach, VA; brother David (Sara) Hughes of Rochester, NY and St. Croix, VI; sister Alyssa (Rob) Black of Burlington, VT; his beloved grandmother, Barbara Hughes of Dallas, TX; stepbrother Payce Jacobson, of Dallas, TX; and his uncle, Robert (Bobby) Hughes, of Fairview, TX. Glenn will always be remembered for his generous spirit, personal courage, sense of adventure, and his fearless commitment in always remaining true to his own self.
Funeral services will be held on September 4, 2013, at 10 a.m. at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers and to honor Glenn's legacy, the family asks that donations be made in Glenn's name to your local animal shelter or the SPCA.
